ROLLING HILLS MIDDLE SCHOOL
PARENT BULLETIN
SEPTEMBER 2010
“RIDE THE WAVE”
Principal's Message:
The kids often think I’m joking when I tell them that my favorite day of the year is the first day of school, but it always has been and always will be my favorite. We in education are the luckiest in the world, for how many professions allow a “do-over” every year?!?! I look forward to the start of the new year for all the promise it offers, for all the excitement students bring, and for the sound of learning on campus. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year, and I thank you for letting me share it with your children!
Our school year is off to a fabulously smooth start. We’ve had our teachers eating lunch with our students every day and modeling those behaviors that we expect from them such as sitting while eating, throwing trash in the proper receptacles, and being kind to other students.
To those of your reading this message, thank you! We save close to $2000 a month by not printing and mailing the parent bulletin, but communication is VITAL to our success. If email is not a viable option or you have other ideas, please share them with me. I’m open to suggestions and value your feedback.
I want to thank parents for completing the parent surveys on line last year. From those surveys came the idea of serving breakfast on campus, and we’re happy to announce that it will happen starting September 7. Your child may purchase breakfast using the same system as is used for the lunch program. A variety of bagels, muffins, and cereals will be served daily from the MP room window from 7:25 to 7:40 a.m. for $1.25. The most important meal of the day is now available at Rolling Hills.
Every year I urge parents to stay involved in their child’s school, even though they are now in middle school and possibly shunning you away. Ways to stay involved include volunteering in the classroom; joining Friends of Rolling Hills, our parent club; helping out with the Buckeye Education Foundation (www.buckeyefoundation.org); serving on a district or school committee; chaperoning field trips; and the list goes on! If you want to help but are unsure where to start, contact me and I’ll point you in the right direction! Friends would love help with our 2nd annual Haunted House (www.friendsofrollinghills.com)!
We really do love what we do here at Rolling Hills. Education, especially in middle school, is certainly a calling and not just a job. We appreciate all you do for our children and look forward to another year of fun in learning. Basque in the promise of what this new year holds for you and your children.
Enjoy!
